Melt & Make $600
Our most popular and hands-on workshop, the Melt & Make Experience lets you create a ring completely from scratch—starting with raw gold granules. Guided by a professional jeweler, you'll melt the gold, pour it, shape it, and craft it into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind piece.
Please note: The Melt & Make Experience is available exclusively in yellow gold.
What to Expect:
Workshops typically begin at 10am and run for 4–5 hours. Here’s a step-by-step guide to your day:
Welcome & Safety Briefing
You’ll be warmly welcomed to our private workshop space. We’ll provide aprons and safety glasses, followed by a short safety briefing to make sure you're comfortable using the tools and equipment.
Ring Sizing & Metal Melting
We’ll accurately measure your ring size and prepare your gold granules. With guidance, you’ll melt the gold in a crucible, and we’ll assist in pouring it into an ingot mould. From this point on, you’ll take control of your ring’s creation — a truly empowering and memorable experience.
💛 Most couples choose to make each other’s rings — a deeply symbolic and meaningful gesture.
Rolling the Gold
Once cooled, your gold ingot is ready to be shaped. You'll use a rolling mill to flatten and stretch the gold to your desired ring width and thickness. In between, you’ll anneal the gold using a torch — keeping the metal soft and workable.
Break & Pickling
While your gold is cleaned in the pickle solution, take a moment to relax with tea, coffee, and biscuits. It’s a great chance to step back and admire the progress.
Cutting & Shaping the Band
You’ll mark and saw your band to length, then use files and forming tools to bend it into a circular shape. Our jeweller will guide you carefully through each technique.
Lunch Break
Most couples take a well-deserved lunch break at this point — especially those visiting from outside Nelson. You're welcome to explore local cafés while we prep for the next stage.
Soldering – The Magic Moment
With the band shaped and edges aligned, it’s time for the highlight of the workshop: soldering. You'll heat your ring with a jeweller’s torch as we carefully apply the solder, fusing your band into one continuous circle.
Final Shaping & Surface Finishing
Now that your ring is structurally complete, it's time to hammer it into a perfect round shape using a mandrel and soft mallet, File and sand the surface for smoothness, Choose between a high-polish finish or custom texture (we’ll show you a range of options)
Polishing – The Wow Moment
This is when your ring truly comes to life. Under the polisher, your handcrafted band transforms into a gleaming symbol of your love — a professional finish you’ll be proud to wear forever.
Optional Extras – Add a Personal Touch
Would you like to add a gemstone or custom engraving to your ring? We can arrange that too.
If we have stones in stock, we may be able to set them while you enjoy a stroll or lunch in town, so your finished ring is ready to take home. Otherwise, we’ll complete the setting afterward arrange shipping for you.

Simply Gold $500
The Simply Gold Experience offers a hands-on jewelry-making workshop similar to our popular Melt & Make experience—but with a key difference. Instead of melting your own gold to create a strip, you’ll begin with a pre-rolled strip of solid gold, ready for crafting.
Perfect for those who want a quicker, more streamlined process without compromising on creativity.
Available in both yellow gold and white gold.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is the cost of gold?
The additional cost for gold depends on factors like your ring size, band width, shape, and thickness. If you fill out our enquiry form, we can provide an estimate based on your design preferences.
Once you've finished shaping your rings in the workshop, we’ll weigh them to calculate the final material cost. Please note that the actual weight may vary slightly if you decide to adjust the shape during the process.

Example 1: 3mm wide ladies half round band and 5mm wide half round gents’ band in 9ct yellow gold in average ring sizes would cost in materials $1884 (April 2025)
Example 2: 3mm wide half round ladies’ band and 5mm wide half round gents’ band in 18ct yellow gold in average ring sizes would cost in materials $5310 (April 2025)
Do I need to book in advance to make my wedding ring?
Yes, bookings are essential. Each wedding ring making workshop is a private session, and we need to ensure we have the correct materials and tools ready for your unique design.
We run our Couples Create workshops on Saturdays and Sundays, when our studio is closed to the public. This means you'll enjoy an exclusive, one-on-one experience with your dedicated jeweller — no distractions, just focused time to create your perfect rings.
Before the day, we’ll schedule a consultation — either in person, via Zoom, or WhatsApp — to confirm your ring sizes, choice of metal (yellow or white gold), and band shape.
Can I make an engagement ring or other custom designs?
Our workshops are designed to be enjoyable and accessible, so we focus on simple, classic ring designs. While we don’t create complex custom pieces or full engagement rings during the workshop, you’re welcome to craft a basic ring band—which we can then finish and customise for you afterwards to create a truly special piece.
I am not very practical, will you help me if I get stuck?
We focus exclusively on wedding ring workshops because they’re the most approachable and enjoyable to make—perfect for beginners. Our goal is to ensure you have a positive, stress-free experience from start to finish.
You'll be guided every step of the way by a professional jeweler who will encourage you to get hands-on and truly make the ring your own. Don’t worry—everyone who’s joined so far has successfully made their rings, even with no prior experience!
And if you ever get stuck, we’re right here to help—so you can relax and enjoy the process.
Can I book a ring making workshop for just one person?
Our workshops require a minimum of two participants. If your partner already has a ring, you’re welcome to attend with a friend, family member, or anyone else you'd like to share the experience with.
Is it safe to use the tools?
Absolutely. Safety is a top priority, and our workshops are beginner-friendly.
You’ll be using professional jewellery tools under close supervision — there are no dangerous chemicals involved. Before you begin, we’ll provide a safety briefing and protective gear, including:
An apron to protect your clothing, Safety glasses, especially for polishing or during gold melting (if you choose the Melt & Make option).
If you have long hair this will need to be tied back Tied-back. Closed toe shoes will be handy should you drop a tool.
We’ll guide you step by step through every process — from measuring and sawing to soldering and polishing — so you feel confident and comfortable throughout the session.
Can I bring my own gold to use in the workshop?
We understand that some customers have sentimental gold they’d love to reuse when making their own rings. While we truly value the importance of personal materials, we unfortunately do not offer the option to bring your own gold during our ring-making workshops.
This is because we can't always verify the exact composition of your gold, and unknown alloys can lead to unpredictable results during melting and casting.
However, we do offer a bespoke service in our in-house workshop, where we can safely work with your own gold under controlled conditions. If you're interested in having your gold transformed into new rings by our expert team, please get in touch to learn more about our custom design services
Why is Melt & Make only available in yellow gold?
We use yellow gold for this experience because it’s more workable than white gold — it melts more cleanly, flows better during pouring, and is easier to shape through the rolling mill.
If you prefer white gold, our Simply Gold workshop is a great alternative. It offers a more structured process using pre-rolled gold strips, still allowing for full customization.
