Two Sisters Separated by Distance connected by matching rings from gold from their homeland

Viv was born in Zimbabwe, but for many years now, New Zealand has been her home. Yet a deep connection to her roots remained — especially in the form of a beautiful, heavy 22ct gold bangle, originally crafted back home from Zimbabwean gold.

Now, it was time to give that gold new life.

Viv wanted to create something meaningful — not just for herself, but also for her sister, who lived far away. Matching rings would become a symbol of their bond, something they could both wear to feel closer despite the distance. Sister Jewellery. Alongside the bangle, she brought in two treasured family diamonds and a striking amethyst she envisioned in a ring for herself. The remaining gold would be passed on to her children, to one day be shaped into designs of their own choosing.

We began the process by exploring our extensive ring portfolio, built over 17 years of custom work. This helped Viv narrow down her preferences, and from there, Allison sketched a design that brought everything together — her family diamonds as the center piece, with a scattering of rubies added for warmth and a touch of colour.

Yvon carefully cut the bangle and calculated the precise alloying needed to transform the soft 22ct gold into more durable 18ct — ideal for everyday wear. From that, she shaped both round and square wires to form two elegant, matching bands. 

The remaining gold was melted once more, ready to cradle the amethyst in plain but stunning ring just for her.

Every piece in this project told a story — of heritage, connection, and legacy. We love the challenge of crafting jewellery that holds deep personal meaning, and Viv’s collection was a beautiful testament to that.
